Biggest Loser Family Cookbook on Display!

It's never too late to lose weight and get in shape

Do you need some proof?

Helen Phillips, 48, became "The Biggest Loser" Tuesday night, taking home the Season 7 title and the $250,000 prize, stunning those who early on had overlooked and all but dismissed her as being too old to be a threat. She started the game at a hefty, bloated, wild-haired 257 pounds and finished it as a sleekly coiffed 117-lb. with tautly defined deltoids, having lost half a person.
Actually, more than half: She lost a stunning 140 pounds, or 54.47% of her body weight.

"Healthy, hot Helen" -- dubbed so by the media -- said her victory delivers a message to all those fortysomethings out there who have spent a lifetime putting everyone else's needs first and believe that weight loss is unattainable for women of a certain age.

..................................................................

The Biggest Loser Family Cookbook is available at your local Books Are Fun school display! Hurry while supplies last. Available in most areas*

Happy Mother's Day From Books Are Fun!

The modern Mother's Day holiday was created by Anna Jarvis and it's now celebrated on various days in many places around the world. It complements Father's Day, the celebration honoring fathers.

Mother's Day continues to this day to be one of the most commercially-successful U.S. occasions. According to the National Restaurant Association, Mother's Day is now the most popular day of the year to dine out at a restaurant in the United States.

For example, according to IBISWorld, a publisher of business research, Americans will spend approximately $2.6 billion on flowers, $1.53 billion on pampering gifts—like spa treatments—and another $68 million on greeting cards.

Mother's Day will generate about 7.8% of the U.S. jewelry industry's annual revenue in 2008, with custom gifts like mother's rings. Books are also on the top of the list when it comes to giving gifts for Mother's Day. There are many types of recipe books, recipe binders and other best seller books that you can find from our Books Are Fun displays to make shopping for Mother's Day much easier for you.

Books Are Fun has many happy mothers at our home office in Boulder, Colorado, so from all of the Books Are Fun mothers to you; Happy Mother's Day!

Happy Cinco de Mayo from Books Are Fun!

In the United States, Cinco de Mayo has taken on a significance beyond that in Mexico. The date is perhaps best recognized in the United States as a date to celebrate the culture and experiences of Americans of Mexican ancestry,

Watch a Video on the Celebrations of Cinco de Mayo
video provided by: Wikihow

People today in Mexico and America celebrate Cinco de Mayo in a big way.

Cinco de Mayo incorporates festivals, fiestas, special dances and special foods all throughout the day. People play special music on special instruments, take part in sporting events, make piƱatas, wear clothes of red and green, the colors of the Mexican flag.

One of the largest celebrations is outside the City Hall of Los Angeles, where more than 500,000 people gather every year. Small family gatherings are also popular. Mexican flags are everywhere you look. So are pictures of General Ignacio Zaragoza, who won the Battle of Puebla in 1862. This battle was on May 5, after all, and May 5 is Cinco de Mayo!

Celebrating Cinco de Mayo is a chance to honor the memory and bravery of the Mexican soldiers who fought for their country. It is also an opportunity to celebrate the culture of Mexico itself. Happy Cinco de Mayo!

Eat This Not That!

On Display at a School or Book Fair Near you!

WORST MILKSHAKE
McDonald's Large Triple Thick Chocolate Milkshake
1160 calories
27 g fat (16 g saturated fat)
168 g sugar
510 mg sodium

You'd be better off eating two Quarter Pounders than slurping down one of these belt-breaking shakes. Steer clear of milkshakes at the golden arches. If you have to have a frozen dessert, order a vanilla ice cream cone to save more than 1,000 calories. Make swaps like that every week and watch the pounds melt off!

Eat This Instead!
Vanilla Reduced-Fat Ice Cream Cone
150 calories
3.5 g fat (2 g saturated fat)
18 g sugars
60 mg sodium

Time and money are two things Americans can't afford to waste. So it's not surprising (though slightly disappointing) that the drive-thru is considered one of the greatest inventions of all time. There's even a study to prove it. In 2005 and 2006, researchers asked 600 adults and teens why they eat so much fast food. Three of the top four responses? It's quick, easy, and affordable. Taste came in third, with only 69 percent of respondents listing flavor as a factor in their fast-food love.

Drive-thru foods may be convenient and easy on the wallet, but they're loaded with unhealthy fats, added sugars, carbohydrates, and sodium. Translation: They're no bargain at all when it comes to your health. But jam-packed schedules and a dismal economy make the occasional drive-thru meal a part of life. That's why Eat This, Not That! studied the open-air menu boards and compiled a list of the worst items out there, plus better alternatives. Avoid these dietary land mines and save more than a few minutes and a couple of bucks—how does up to 20 pounds in a year sound? Now dont forget to think of your kids when you give one to them each day or each week. Loosing the pudge starts with being proactive and resisting the urge. Just know there is always another substitute out there for you that is far better for your health and tastes just as good.

How do I set up a Books Are Fun Book Fair at my organization?

If you are interested in booking a Corporate Book Fair for your business, please locate the Region you are in and contact the Regional Manager in the “Careers With Us’ post to get started.

What is a 'Books Are Fun' Corporate Book Fair Event?

A Corporate Fair Event is so many things.

It’s a mobile bookstore
An employee appreciation event
A holiday celebration
A fund raiser

We do all the work, you get all the credit.

Our representative will show up at a predetermined time to unload their truck and set up your event. We provide the product, a cash register, music, tables and so much more.Once the Book Fair is set up and open for business, we will staff and run your entire event for you so you can continue your important daily activities.

We accept all forms of payment (cash, check, Visa, MasterCard, Amex, Discover) and even Payroll Deduction (provided your acct dept is agreeable). For every sale at your event, you earn a cash rebate. You can designate your rebate to a local charity, a specific dept or pass it along to your employees with a discount at the register.

How much will your organization make from a Books Are Fun Corporate Fair Event?

Each independent rep offers a percentage of sales rebate and how much you make, depending on how great the Book Fair sales are. There are many ways to add to your sales, thereby increasing your profitability so the event can be very exciting!

RAFFLES: Sell tickets to a raffle that takes place at your event. You keep the money from the ticket sales and it increases traffic at your event, which should also increase sales.

PRE-DISPLAYS: Allow the representative to set up a sampling of product a few days before your big event. This gives your employees a chance to see a preview of what type of items will be for sale.

INCREASED MARKETING: We provide you with Posters, Table Tents, Flyers and Email Marketing. Anything else you do to promote your event is always helpful.

INVITE YOUR NEIGHBORS: Feel free to let other businesses around you know you are having a Book Fair. They’ll love you for including them and you’ll reap the benefits.
